Internship Description
Overall Job Purpose: The incumbent will undertake limited research in a wide variety of engineering geology projects under the guidance of more senior scientific staff within the Infrastructure and Land Use Business Unit.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct limited geoscience research under the guidance, which includes data collection, basic analyses, and interpretation.
- Resolve simple problems in a variety of geoscientific fields online (in part) with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/ research methodology under guidance/supervision.
- Participates in statutory and/or commercial projects under supervision.
- Assist in geoscience data collection and capturing, map compilation and geoscience data collation under instruction and guidance.
- Assist in the compilation of scientific reports under guidance.
- Gives formal scientific or technical presentations of papers or reports, internally to other staff members and externally with guidance at conferences or symposia (typically once a year)
- Provide Geohazard assessment feedback to State Authorities
- Publishes research findings internally and/or externally based on the nature of the project cycle.
- Work within the requirements of the prescribed work standards (i.e. ISO and international best practices).
- Undertake specific and requisite self-improvement learning and development activities through workshops//training courses.
Requirements:
- Grade 12/ Matric certificate
- BSc Hons Engineering Geology or equivalent
NB. Candidate Natural Scientist (Cand.Sci.Nat.) registration with SACNASP will be advantageous.
